Welcome to what's the startup, the podcast that gets real about the entrepreneurial journey. This isn't about sugarcoating or dishing out empty platitudes at Sprocket. We're really here to tell you the truth, that hard stuff that no one else will tell you, because let's be honest, building a business is tough. You're not just chasing a dream. You're solving problems, breaking through barriers and putting in the kind of work that most people just can't even imagine. So today we're going to hit you with five lovingly hard truths that every entrepreneur needs to face. This is not the stuff that you'll see on highlight reels or social media posts all about that hustle culture. These are the Unglamorous realities that will make or break your journey. If you're serious about succeeding, this is the episode for you. Let's get into it. Number one, very first hard truth. Not everyone will believe in you. And that's okay. Here's a fact. Not everyone's going to get your vision. You're going to encounter doubters, whether it's friends, family, potential investors, or even just complete strangers. Some people just won't see what you see, and that's their loss, not yours. The truth is, you don't need any of it. Everyone's approval to succeed. What you need is resilience. People will question your path. They might even call you crazy. You might even call yourself crazy, but maybe just, maybe that's a sign that you're onto something big. Don't waste time convincing everyone. Spend your energy finding the right people who do believe in you. People who push you forward when the road gets tough. So. Surround yourself with a community that gets it like here at Sprocket, whether it's mentors, fellow founders, or teams like ours at Sprocket, find your people. They are out there. Number two, success doesn't happen overnight. We've all heard it. We love a good overnight success story, but let's get real. Those don't really exist. What you don't see behind those headlines are the years of grinding, failing, getting back up. The truth is success and entrepreneurship is a long game. And if you're not ready for that, you're in the wrong business. Patience isn't just a virtue, it's a survival skill. For founders and entrepreneurs, the grind is hard and there will be moments where it feels like nothing is moving. But trust us when we say, when you hit that first breakthrough, when that first win finally comes, it'll be because you earned it. And it'll feel so much sweeter because of the journey that you took to get here. So the next big takeaway is to break your big vision down into small steps. Small manageable goals celebrate the heck out of those small wins because they'll fuel your momentum. Stay consistent and trust that success will come. But only if you stay in the game, stay focused. Number three. Failure isn't a detour. It is the path. Here's the one takeaway that probably hits the hardest. You will fail. Let that sink in. Maybe just like, go stare at a wall with those words in your head. Failure isn't optional in this game. It's guaranteed. But, guess what? It's also the key to winning. Every entrepreneur who has ever succeeded has failed, usually more than once. And those failures, they aren't setbacks, they're stepping stones forward. You learn more from your failures than your successes. Any entrepreneur will tell you that. Every time you fall flat, you gain a new perspective, a deeper understanding of what doesn't work. And sometimes, that's even more valuable than figuring out what does. So the next big takeaway, when failure hits, and it will, don't look at it as the end of the road. Instead, ask yourself, what did I learn? How can I adapt? Keep moving forward because success is on the other side of failure. Number four, wearing all the hats. Isn't sustainable. Let's talk burnout. In those early days, you will do everything. You'll be the CEO, the marketer, the customer service rep, the janitor, you name it. And at first that hustle might feel good and satisfying. You're building something from scratch and that's exciting. You've got all the passion in the world for this thing, but the truth is that It's not sustainable. Trying to do everything will, eventually take you out of the game. As your business grows, you got to let go of some things. That means building a team, trusting others and letting them take ownership of the roles that don't need your hand in every single detail. You don't have to be the best at everything, just the best at what you do. So the next big takeaway. Identify the tasks that you can delegate or automate. Focus your energy on what actually drives your business forward and let the right people handle the rest. Remember burnout is the enemy of longterm success. Lastly, maybe most importantly, The market decides, not you. This one kind of stings. No matter how much you love your idea, no matter how brilliant you think it is, the market has the final say. You might be married to your vision, but if your customers aren't biting, it's time to face the facts. The market will always decide what's valuable, not you. The good news? You don't have to guess. You can get out there, talk to your potential customers and test your assumptions before you go all in. Don't wait for your product to fail in the wild. Get real feedback, adapt, and evolve. So the next takeaway is always be in a mindset of customer discovery. Customer discovery doesn't just happen the first phase of starting your business. It's a never ending cycle. Don't assume the market will follow you. Go meet the market where it's at and pivot when necessary. Flexibility is one of the greatest assets an entrepreneur can have. So there you have it. Five hard truths every entrepreneur should face. They are not easy to hear, but if you're serious about building something that lasts, you've got to be ready to embrace these. At Sprocket, we don't shy away from these truths. We help founders like you push through the tough stuff because we know that's where the real growth happens. If today's episode hit home, share it with a fellow entrepreneur who could use some real talk. And don't forget to subscribe to What's The Startup so you don't miss out on future episodes. We're here to help you navigate the highs, the lows, everything in between. So until next time, keep building, keep hustling, and remember, the only way to fail is to stop trying.
